The Empowered Homeowner: Navigating Homeowners Insurance Coverage & Claims
November 21 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
PART 2 – Understanding Your Homeowners Insurance Policy & Claims Process: How to save money by understanding your risks and coverage
The Empowered Homeowner is a 2-part educational workshop aimed at helping homeowners understand the exterior of the home, maintenance issues that commonly arise, how to read and understand the coverage provided by your homeowners insurance policy, and finally, how to handle unexpected damage from weather events. The workshops will feature flow charts and diagrams, handouts of terms, photos, policy and claim examples for a variety of insurance carriers, and each session will feature a checklist of questions to take home.
Purchasing a Homeowner’s insurance policy to protect your home in case of unexpected events typically goes hand in hand with the purchase of a home. What doesn’t always accompany these purchases is an understanding of how your homeowner’s insurance works including what is or isn’t covered, what affects the price of your policy and what will happen if you have an unexpected event leading to a claim. In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of insurance coverage and leave with some sample policy language (regardless of your carrier), as well as a list of questions to take back to your agent so that you can make more informed decisions that align with your priorities for your home, budget and lifestyle.
Additionally, we will cover how, when, and why to file an insurance claim – particularly as it relates to weather and storm damage. Then we will work through a flow chart of the claims process from beginning to end. You will leave with a handout about the process as well as sample language and terms of insurance claim paperwork so if you are ever dealing with this you have tools to help guide you through the gauntlet of competing interests.
The workshop is designed for 90 min of content and 30 min reserved at the end for questions and answers.
Cost for this 2 part series (Novemeber 14 & 21) is $30
